I'm so excited to meet you!

Hi loves! I'm seriously so glad you're here! My full name Sydney Bliss Colgan, but you can just call me Syd. My amazing husband and I recently made the move from our home city of Orange, California to the cutest little storybook town of Pella, Iowa! We don't have kids (yet) but are parents to a beautiful Persian kitty named Fitzgerald who we are obsessed with.
What started as a fun hobby in early 2017, quickly became a full time photography business after I graduated from college with a bachelors in business. I am so fortunate to have such a fulfilling career that I love doing every single day. 

When I was young. My grandpa was a professional photographer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa back in 1945. I used to sit in my grandparent’s basement for hours and flip through hundreds of his old film prints. He was one of the first photographers to start taking outdoor senior portraits! How crazy is that?! I guess you could say photography is in the genes lol!

Re-watching some of my favorite shows like The Office, Parks and Rec, Gilmore Girls, or Friends for the millionth time, spending an evening at Disneyland, browsing a farmers market, or having dinner with our friends! Sharing a meal is my love language!

My love for photography began...

Let's be real, if you're not a model on the regular, taking photos can be a little intimidating. Maybe you're nervous that your posing will look awkward, or worried your flaws (you know, the ones that only you notice) will somehow be magnified through the camera. If this is you, guess what! I've been there! And I'm here to tell you that no, it doesn't look awkward, and no they are not magnified lol! As long as you show up with an open mind and have a little faith in me, I promise everything is going to be A-OK! My goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible in front of the camera. I want you to feel like you just made a new best friend when we say 'see ya later' after a session! 

And most importantly, I want the photos I take to make you feel like I captured the real you!  Don't get me wrong, I love overly-posed, high fashion editorial shoots (and I'm always down for that), but there is something so invaluable about a photograph that drips with raw, genuine emotion… And I think that’s why I’m so in love with capturing those perfect candid moments that exude the real chemistry and true personality of my clients. I’d much rather tell you to run around like you’re in a romantic movie montage than force you into an awkward 90’s prom pose lol. Be prepared to let loose and laugh a little (or a lot).
